Yelly de Jong, a farmer's daughter of Dutch origin, has lived in England for more than 30 years, with 20 of these spent in the North West of England. Having raised (and fed) 3 children, Yelly trained as a cookery lecturer and was involved in adult education for a number of years. The idea for a small cookery school and B&B became reality when Yelly, and her musician husband John, found the perfect house in the peaceful village of Ravenstonedale. With possibly the best location in the village (with stunning views of the Howgill Fells), the beautifully restored Grade II Listed building boasts two superb double en-suite guest rooms and a fully equiped teaching kitchen (complete with bean-to-cup espresso machine). If you're looking for the perfect B&B, or a taste of some unique world cuisine, then your search is over!
The one day cookery courses for small groups cover everything from traditional Cumbrian recipes to exotic dishes from around the world. The daytime cookery days only happen a couple of times a week, and take place downstairs in the kitchen, so you will have plenty of peace in your B&B room if you just want to relax.

Old Craft Barn"The Old Craft Barn" originally an 18th century hay barn, nestles under Helms Knott in beautiful Dentdale. Initially, it was converted in the late 1970's into a working craft centre. In later years, with the addition of a tea-room, the renowned "Dent Craft Centre" became an eminent location for locals and tourists alike. Despite thoroughly enjoying eleven years operating the Centre, Carrol and Joe were ready for a fresh challenge. This new initiative fit the bill perfectly and with lots of remodelling within yet still retaining some original features, they feel that the barn has lent itself admirably to a stunning Bed & Breakfast venue. There are four individually designed bedrooms, three with ensuite and the single with an adjoining shower room. The welcoming guest lounge has a spectacular view of Combe Scar together with a corner fire, large comfortable sofas, books, maps and games. An interesting display of Joe's antique tools and dairy equipment often spark off a conversation! A tray of hot tea and homebaked scones, cakes or biscuits awaits your arrival. In the morning, "breakfast like a king" with a choice of delicious local and homemade fare. All in all, a unique interior with a warm Dales welcome!

Stouphill Gate is a traditional old Cumbrian farmstead, and the holiday accommodation has been formed from the older parts of the property retaining much of the original character whilst benefiting from all of the modern conveniences.
Guests can relax in the quiet lounge, which is located in the main farmhouse, thumbing through a book by the cosy heating stove or plan the next days activities using the leaflets and guide books on the shelves. There is a also cupboard with games and jigsaws for those so inclined. This room is also where you will be greeted with cake and a beverage on arrival and where a hearty Aga cooked breakfast is served in the mornings. The home made bread and jams are a real treat.
There are two guest bedrooms both ensuite with the usual amenities. The family room is situated at ground level and is fully wheelchair accessible, whilst those able to climb the steps often opt for the loft room which being higher has the better views. The views are what we are about as all guest windows look out towards Mallerstang Edge, Wild Boar Fell and the Stennerskeugh Clouds while all around is silence and tranquillity as befits its rural setting.
Stouphill Gate has been recommended in the 'Hidden Guide to the Lake District and Cumbria', published by Travel Publishing Ltd, as part of their Hidden Places of Britain Series. Only one holiday cottage/bed & breakfast establishment is chosen, by the visiting public, for each of the areas these guides cover and Stouphill Gate is the recommended choice for the Upper Eden area.
