SarahM produces a range of jams, chutneys, marmalades and speciality cakes from her home in Sedbergh. Coming from a farming family, baking and making preserves from garden vegetables was part of every day life and has now become Sarah's business.
Jams are made from home or locally grown fruit where possible, often combining flavours to make new blends. Sarah's Red Gooseberry jam scooped a 2 star rating at The Great Taste awards 2008, regarded widely as the Oscars of the food industry. Sarah has also been awarded the Taste Cumbria, Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards 2013 for her Damson Jam.
Chutneys are also made from home or locally grown produce where possible. Sarah's Courgette chutney was awarded a 2 star gold in the Great Taste awards 2007 and went on to be listed as one of the top ten chutneys by the Independent newspaper.
Only Seville oranges from Powells greengrocer in Sedbergh are used to obtain the best bitter orange taste for the marmalade, used by Clarissa Dixon-Wright in a cooking demonstration at Holker Hall! Other ingredients such as ginger, brandy and red grapefruit are added to create different flavours . Grapefruit marmalade with Cranberries is especially popular at Christmas time.
Speciality fruit cakes are all made by hand to a secret family recipe developed many years ago . Sponge cakes are also made, often designed on the theme of customers hobbies or interests. Novelty wedding cakes are a speciality.
